About

Hello, I’m Kathy.
I created The Hysterectomy Diaries because I know what it’s like to be frightened, to have questions you haven’t found answers to, and to wonder what life will look like after surgery.
In 2026, I had a hysterectomy with both ovaries removed, alongside extensive surgery for severe endometriosis. I also had adenomyosis and fibroids. My recovery included complications, a further hospital stay and the adjustment to surgical menopause.
There were moments when I wanted information. Other times, I just wanted to hear from another woman who understood. Someone who could talk honestly about the uncertainty, the difficult days and the things you don’t always know how to explain to the people around you.
That’s where this began.
A place for whatever you’re feeling
A hysterectomy can bring relief, fear, grief, hope — sometimes all at once. Our reasons for having surgery differ, and so do our recoveries.
The Hysterectomy Diaries is a space for those experiences. Whether you’re considering surgery, counting down to your date, recovering or finding your way through life afterwards, I want you to feel there’s somewhere you can return to.
I’m creating the journal I would have valued myself: somewhere to gather questions, prepare for surgery, write honestly and notice the changes along the way. A letter to your future self is at its heart — words to return to when the days feel tough.
Alongside it, I’m building practical resources and a community where women can share their stories, ask for support and simply listen when that’s what they need.
You don’t need to have it all figured out
I’m still finding my own way, too. This comes from lived experience and a wish to make the experience a little less lonely for someone else.
If you’ve arrived here feeling unsure, overwhelmed or in need of understanding, you’re welcome here.
