My Hysterectomy Journey
There’s so much to take in when you’re facing a hysterectomy. Questions you remember after the appointment. Worries that surface at bedtime. Practical arrangements—and feelings you haven’t quite found the words for.
I’ve created this journal because I know how overwhelming those unknowns can feel. A place to gather your thoughts, prepare for conversations and record your experience, before surgery and as you find your way afterwards.
What’s planned inside
- A letter to my future self — words to return to when the days feel tough, reminding you of your reasons, hopes and what matters to you.
- Making sense of your decision — space to explore your feelings, consider your options and note what you want to discuss with your healthcare team.
- Questions for your surgeon — somewhere to collect your questions and record the answers.
- Preparing for surgery — hospital bag notes, home preparations and practical arrangements.
- Telling friends, family and work — think through what you want to share, with whom, and the support you’d like to ask for.
- Your recovery support plan — who can help, what you might need and how to make asking a little easier.
- The emotional side — room for relief, uncertainty, grief, hope or feelings that change from day to day.
- Your recovery diary — space to record your experiences, appointments, questions and small milestones, without comparing yourself with anyone else.
- Finding your way forward — reflections on everyday life, relationships, work and questions about menopause or HRT to take to your healthcare team.
You won’t need to write every day or fill every page. This will be your space, to use in whatever way helps you.
